Immerse yourself in a beautiful embroidery journey with our comprehensive series of 8 online classes, each spanning 2 and a half hours, meticulously crafted to introduce aspiring embroiderers to the artistry that defines Hand & Lock and the realm of couture embroidery. Guided by our expert tutors, you'll embark on an exploration through the intricate realm of hand embroidery, discovering its nuances through an array of materials. You will be shown how to frame up a couture slate frame in the Parisian way with Ribbons (one of the fastest and most beautiful methods of framing up for embroidery). This course is a window into the world of couture, offering an immersive experience that unveils the secrets and subtleties of this prestigious art form. The techniques unveiled within this class are often used by the couture houses of London, Paris, and New York.

 The techniques for this course include: Tambour Beading, Goldwork, Hand Embellishment

This is a brand new course designed to introduce you to a beautiful range of couture techniques including Tambour Beading, Hand Embellishment and Goldwork embroidery. Showcasing the art of embellishment, this unique class will allow you to discuss how to transfer these skills onto a project of your choice with guidance from our tutors. With our brand new 8 week course you'll venture into the realm of opulence by incorporating luxurious metal threads and silk strands. You will be guided in the art of elevating your tambour beadwork to new heights as you master the art of adding dimension through padding and tasteful Goldwork accents.

IMPORTANT: For this course you will need an 18" slate frame and a 10 inch seat frame to practice the stitches on. To purchase a Slate Frame please contact Jenny Adin Christie via email: jenny.adinchristie@googlemail.com. You will also need dressmaking pins, a tape measure and 6 metres of a 1 inch wide ribbon. All of the rest of the materials for this course will be sent out to you. You will need to supply you own embroidery equipment (scissors, needle threaders, daylight lights etc) to suit your learning needs. When you are working with a Slate Frame it is also recommended that you have a set of trestles to place your embroidery on when you are working.

If your order includes other products alongside your online course these will be shipped separately to your course materials kit. Please keep this in mind for international orders as any customs fees will be charged on each package.

All International Parcels will be shipped via express courier two weeks before this class is due to start. Please do not book onto this course if you are within the two week window before the course starts and you live outside of the UK. UK parcels will be shipped three days before the course is due to start. UK parcels will be shipped express via Royal Mail. Please note that the address that you book the course with will be the address that the kit is sent out to. Shipping will be calculated at the checkout. 

Our online courses are delivered via Zoom using a high quality visualiser. Please download Zoom before the course begins (we will send a guide on how to do this when the course is booked). We also have an accompanying WhatsApp group for each of our courses. This group enables you to connect with other students and the tutor by sharing photos of your progress. Please download WhatsApp before the course starts (we will also send a guide on how to do this when the course is booked). All of our online course sessions and recorded and sent out after the class for you to keep forever! They are sent on a link for you to download after the class so please don't worry if you miss a session of tutoring, you can always catch up using the recording. Please note: The fabric for this class is a Silk Organza rather than a Tulle (this decision has been made to make the design transfer and stitching process easier).

Our bespoke online classes are taught by expert hand embroiderers who have worked in the couture industry for brands such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Dior, Valentino, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Schiaparelli, Lanvin and Burberry to name a few. The classes will cover the basics, insider tips and practical application making sure students are fully equipped to go on and apply what they have learned to their own garments and develop their own unique styles. Our tutors are work embroiderers first and tutors second which means they are able to give you a unique insight into the magical world of couture hand embroidery.
